Stereotype

In the world, there are millions of different cultures, some that we may know and others that are completely unknown. To talk about culture, there is a very important theory and it is that of the iceberg. When we look at the reality that we have in front of our eyes, we only see the surface, which is visible to us, which according to the iceberg theory is around 20% and the remaining 80% is the mysterious or unconscious part that with the naked eye we cannot appreciate and it is at this moment that stereotypes are born. In the case of Chinese culture, there are countless stereotypes that have been created over the years and it is basically what the iceberg theory refers to, we can only see what is with the naked eye and we do not know what is behind a face and of a culture. Of the most common stereotypes that we can hear about this Chinese culture are the following: China is a closed culture or country, a country whose economy is emerging and is the factory of the world and whose culture is a set of the exotic, the mysterious and archaic.

Making a description of the drawing shown above, we say that said drawing is based on various existing stereotypes in society about Chinese culture.  our drawing begins by showing the ying-yang symbol because one of the stereotypes about the Chinese is that "all Chinese believe in ying-yang", due to most movies and programs, it is believed that this stereotype is  True, however, the Taoist (yinyang) religion is not even one of the most popular in the country.  Another symbol that we can find in the drawing is the flag of China.  With this flag we represent the stereotype that "China is a closed country" however this is not the case, since Chinese culture and society is open-minded but its government is very strict and closed.  In addition, we show a food drawing representing the stereotype that "China has the most exotic food in the world" this is partly true, since its food is full of exotic animals that no other country dares to eat.  Finally, we represent with a drawing of an old man, the stereotype of the Chinese, that they have a calm behavior in their culture and a lot of wisdom.  Chinese culture is one of the most intelligent in the world and thanks to its discipline and intelligence they win prizes around the world.
